Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model highlighted how the modeling competition was made before ending after 24 seasons. Tyra Banks stopped talking to some of the judges, and they talked about it in the Netflix documentary. Miss J. Alexander revealed he had a stroke in 2022, and she didn’t visit.
A friend created a GoFundMe to help cover the medical expenses for his recovery. One person questioned the timing of this since it didn’t happen immediately after his stroke.
Steven Grossman Says He Wanted to Respect Miss J. Alexander’s Privacy
Talent manager Steven Grossman posted a gallery of photos of himself and Miss J. hanging out with other famous people on Instagram. “Most people know these folks as judges – for me they are foremost my friends,” read the caption. “None more so than the incomparable #MissJ who has been a strong force in my life for almost 20 years.” He wrote, “So if Miss J ever made you smile or laugh – I hope you will consider donating or sharing with your community.”
A person asked, “Why are you just now starting it if he’s your foremost ‘friend’?”
“Because he kept it private for years until the Netflix documentary came out and it wasn’t my news to share,” the manager replied.
“So why didn’t he say that in the documentary?” the same person asked.
“Who says he didn’t? Ask the editors and producers. And who cares. It’s his story to tell and for him to ultimately decide when he was comfortable sharing it,” Grossman answered.
The fundraising page has a goal of $50k for round-the-clock care and help with the on-going physical and speech therapies. There has been $18,117 raised by February 23. Miss J. was in a wheelchair while filming the documentary. The runway coach has made progress and can get out of the chair by himself, according to Jay Manuel.
