Misty Copeland isn’t dancing around her thoughts on Timothée Chalamet’s latest hot take.
In fact, she’s twirling with thoughtful intention. Weeks after the Dune actor alleged that “no one cares” about ballet and opera, the ballet dancer shared her perspective on his remarks.
“It’s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting Marty Supreme with respect to my art form,” Misty said during a March 10 panel for Aveeno in New York City. “I think it’s important that we acknowledge that, yes, this is an art form that’s not ‘popular’ and a part of pop culture as movies are. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have enduring relevance in culture.”
Indeed, the 43-year-old—the first black woman to be principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre—was featured in Marty Supreme’s campaign on Instagram last November. That month, the film’s official account posted a photo of her wearing a Marty Supreme jacket and a throwback shot of her dancing as a child, describing her evolution as a reminder to “Dream Big.”
Considering the movie sees Timothée (who stars as table tennis player Marty Mauser) confidently following his dreams, even when the odds are against him, Misty was surprised to hear his discouraging comments about the arts.

“There’s a reason that opera and ballet have been around for over 400 years,” she explained. “I think when you have access and opportunity to be a part of something, that can change your life. The work I’ve been doing my whole career is to bring more people into it, so that people do understand the importance and relevance of it in our communities and our culture.”
The Firebird author confessed, “He wouldn’t be an actor and have the opportunities he has as a movie star if it weren’t for opera and ballet and their relevance. All of these mediums have a space and we shouldn’t be comparing them.”
True to her words, Timothée compared how the world interacts with movies to other art forms in his interview with Matthew McConaughey in February.
“I admire people who go on a talk show and say, ‘Hey, we’ve got to keep movie theaters alive,’” the 30-year-old said during their Variety and celebrity.land conversation for Actors on Actors. “I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera, where it’s like, ‘Keep this thing alive even though no one cares about this anymore.’ All respect to the ballet and opera people out there.”

But Misty wasn’t the only creative that reacted to Timothée’s comments. In fact, the Metropolitan Opera reframed his statement by posting a video of several behind-the-scenes departments—including musicians and costume set designers—working together to produce a show.
“All respect to the opera (and ballet) people out there,” the organization wrote in their March 5 Instagram video, onscreen text, “This one’s for you, @tchalamet…”

“I told a lie when I was 34 years old and it was the biggest mistake of my life. It just got bigger and bigger and bigger and got buried deeper and deeper inside me,” Elisabeth told The Ankler newsletter Dec. 7, adding, “I’ve never had any form of cancer.”
Summed up Finch, who was placed on administrative leave from the ABC medical drama before eventually resigning, said, “What I did was wrong. Not okay. F–ked up. All the words.”

Telling The New York Times the lengths she would go to for a more youthful appearance, the reality star cracked that she was willing to try just about anything.

In a July 2022 interview with Allure, Kim said she was “kind of joking” about the comment, though the idea didn’t seem too terrible.
“But now that I think about it,” Kim added, “I would probably eat s–t if someone told me, ‘If you eat this bowl of poop every single day, you’ll look younger.'”
How much could she make room for? “Maybe just a bite,” she told the outlet. “I don’t think I can do a whole bowl.”
