LOS ANGELES — Five years after the events of the “Greenland” movie, Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin will reprise their roles as John and Allison Garrity in “Greenland 2: Migration.” They navigate a scarred planet and fight to preserve the best parts of their humanity, empathy, love and hope.
In the film, the Garrity family once again finds themselves traveling across land, sea and sky to escape disasters in search for a new home — a new home that may not only be an oasis but none other than the impact site of the Clarke meteor.
“It’s a harrowing ride,” Baccarin told Spectrum News. “It’s full of humanity and compassion and action. I think it’s a really fun film.”
Filming on the sequel began five years after the release of the first “Greenland” — the same time depicted in the film since the Clarke meteor struck Earth. The passing of time, Baccarin said, was helpful in playing Allison again.
“You allow yourself to change. You still have the dynamic and the relationship you did, but people change who they are. They grow, and so it was fun to jump back into the same character that isn’t exactly the same person,” she said.

Baccarin told Spectrum News she had a good time shooting the first film and there was no hesitation in coming back to film the sequel.
“I really loved how the first one turned out, and I was excited to continue the story for this family,” she said.
Baccarin touted her relationship with Butler, saying the pair loves working together and loved creating their film family. In this new film, Roman Griffin Davis joins Baccarin and Butler as their son, Nathan.
“It was like no time had gone by,” she said. “Roman fit right in. He’s a total pro and worked really hard. We had a good time. It was nice to have a partner in Roman that was our equal in the sense that we didn’t have to take care of him as much physically. We had to do some really difficult stunts, and being the young one, I was very gung-ho about it all.”
“Greenland 2: Migration” opens in theaters this weekend.
