Charlie Kirk’s body was flown out of Utah aboard Air Force Two this week, with Vice President JD Vance personally stepping, as a Mortician on TikTok detailed the process.
Lauren the Mortician, a licensed professional who documents death care procedures, broke down the timeline of the transfer in a TikTok video.
“This is history,” she said. “Horrible history, and I wish it wasn’t happening, but it is.”
Kirk’s body was first removed from the hospital under a full police escort.
A black funeral van, trailed by the medical examiner’s vehicle, led the procession.
“In homicide cases, the body must go to the medical examiner before it reaches a funeral home,” Lauren explained. “It’s mandatory. The autopsy documents bullet trajectory, tissue damage, toxicology, all for evidence.”
Following the autopsy, Kirk’s remains were almost certainly embalmed.
“After traumatic deaths, embalming isn’t optional if the family wants a final goodbye,” she added.
From there, Kirk’s body was transferred with full military-style honors. A U.S. Air Force honor guard in blue dress uniforms and white gloves conducted the pallbearing alongside Vice President Vance.
“That’s not standard,” Lauren said. “It’s rare for a sitting Vice President to carry a casket.”

She noted that the aircraft, Air Force Two, refers not to a specific plane but to the call sign used when the Vice President is onboard. Typically, it’s a Boeing C-32, the military version of a 757.
“I could not find another documented case of a civilian being flown home this way on Air Force Two,” she said.
While military dignified transfer protocols exist for service members, Lauren said this treatment for a civilian is “extremely rare.”
“This isn’t just about grief,” she said. “It’s about the state choosing to honor him with protocol usually reserved for the military or elected officials.”
Kirk’s casket was flown back to Arizona with full honors visible to the public.
“This is a piece of living history being written in real time,” Lauren said. “Whether you agree or not, this is what happened, and it’s not normal.”
