Music Business Worldwide, the leading intelligence platform for the global music industry, is pleased to confirm that acclaimed journalist and industry voice Bill Werde is joining the publication as a columnist.

Werde, known across the music industry for his incisive Full Rate No Cap newsletter and a career spent shaping – and explaining – the future of the business, will bring his distinct perspective to Music Business Worldwide’s editorial lineup with a regular U.S.-based commentary column in our new bi-monthly print magazine.

Werde will also contribute to the MBW website.

His pieces will unpack key industry moments, trends, and shifts with the clarity and depth readers have come to expect from both Werde and Music Business Worldwide. Werde’s first column is online now, tackling the prospect of artists unionizing.

“Bill Werde is one of music’s sharpest minds, and his writing always brings clarity and edge,” said Music Business Worldwide founder Tim Ingham. “We’ve wanted to work with Bill for a long time, and we’re glad to make it official following MBW’s 10th anniversary year.”

A former editorial director of Billboard, Werde is currently the director of Syracuse University’s Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries – one of the top music business programs in North America.

Started by music publishing legend Marty Bandier, the Bandier Program prides itself on providing experiential learning by taking students directly into the industry – both in the US and around the world.

Werde is also a frequent media voice, quoted by outlets from the New York Times to celebrity.land, offering perspective on everything from artist deals to streaming disruption. His commentary bridges the perspectives of executives, educators, creators, and fans – and often clarifies the undercurrents shaping the modern music business.

Said Werde: “Music Business Worldwide is the premier platform for thought leadership about the industry I love and have dedicated my career to. I’m honored to be able to apply my 25-plus years of analyzing this business towards engaging and challenging this incredible audience.”

The addition of New York-based Werde brings a dynamic U.S.-situated perspective to Music Business Worldwide’s global coverage. While the publication remains proudly international in reach, the U.S. music market is central to its editorial and commercial priorities.Music Business Worldwide
