A legendary pop icon is joining forces with one of today’s biggest rap stars, and fans are already buzzing.
Announced on Monday afternoon, Janet Jackson is set to feature on rapper Cardi B’s brand-new album, Am I The Drama?, dropping this Friday. Jackson has been known for decades for her impact on the music industry, her electrifying performances and her influence on R&B and pop. Other collaborations in Cardi B’s record include rapper Cash Cobain, Kehlani, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Selena Gomez, Summer Walker and Tyla.
Jackson’s collaboration with Cardi B marks her first musical release in two years. In 2023, she put out a deluxe version of her 2008 album Discipline, and in 2022, she reissued a deluxe edition of her 1997 album The Velvet Rope. Before that, her most recent studio album was 2015’s Unbreakable.
This is Cardi B’s first full album since her debut record Invasion of Privacy, released in 2018, which also featured several prominent collaborations, including Bad Bunny, J. Balvin, Migos, 21 Savage, and Chance the Rapper.
Although it has been seven years since the 32-year-old rapper released a studio album, she has remained active in music, releasing multiple singles and collaborations with artists such as Bruno Mars, GloRilla, Maroon 5, Shakira and more.
Cardi B’s upcoming album is set to feature 23 tracks, including her 2020 collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP,” her 2021 hit “Up” and the lead single for the upcoming record, “Outside.”
While details about the tracklist are still under wraps, Jackson’s vocals are expected to add an exciting flair to the project. Known for her creative music, amazing stage presence and socially conscious lyrics, the 59-year-old singer helped shape pop and R&B with hits like “Rhythm Nation,” “Nasty” and “All for You.” Beyond music, Jackson has influenced fashion, music videos and live performance standards, earning her status as a cultural hip-hop icon and inspiration for generations of artists worldwide.
Cardi B’s Am I The Drama? will be out on all streaming platforms on Friday.
