Directed by duo Chris Barrett and Luke Taylor, the music video follows Melton and Taylor-Joy as a couple whose tense relationship unravels at a motel. Choreographed by Wynn Holmes, the pair argue through expressive contemporary and lyrical dancing. Taylor-Joy acts as a possessive lover, chasing Melton through the motel, eventually multiplying into versions of herself to keep him from leaving.
The actors’ punctuated movements work alongside a noticeably pulsing beat and catchy hook. ‘Jealous Lover’ showcases Mick Jagger’s striking falsetto and a soulful feel. The new single’s style stands apart from the three other tracks already released from the upcoming album. While ‘Rough and Twisted’, ‘Divine Intervention’ and ‘In the Stars’ stick to a blues and rock sound, ‘Jealous Lover’ sways into an R&B-tinted groove.
The release of the single and its music video on the 25th of June coincided with the launch of The Rolling Stones’ new podcast, Speaking in Tongues. The band have announced that the six-episode series will feature interviews and behind-the-scenes of the making of the album. It will be narrated by musician Norah Jones.
The Rolling Stones’ highly-anticipated 14-track studio album, ‘Foreign Tongues’, comes out on the 10th of July and will be available in several formats for fans including CD and vinyl.
