”I first connected with Esjay during a writing session, and the connection was immediate. It felt like we were speaking the same creative language,” said 15-year-old American pop artist Piper Connolly.
Her latest single, “Beautiful Life”, marks the start of a new chapter in her career, with South African songwriter and producer Esjay Jones helping shape her sound.
At an age when most teenagers are still figuring out who they are, Connolly is already making her mark on the global music scene.
The Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter has released her latest single and music video, “Beautiful Life”, a track that blends pop, pop rock and personal storytelling into an anthem about growing up, embracing change and finding joy through life’s ups and downs.
The single also has a strong South African connection. It was produced and co-written by Jones, one of South Africa’s most successful music exports, whose career has taken her from local stages to Los Angeles, where she has worked with internationally recognised artists and producers.
For Connolly, what started as a single songwriting session quickly became a partnership that shaped her upcoming project.
“She never tried to change who I was as an artist. She helped me sharpen my vision and push the songs to a deeper level.”
The collaboration proved so successful that the pair went on to write Piper’s entire upcoming EP together.
“We ended up writing my entire EP together, so ‘Beautiful Life’ is really the first chapter of a much bigger story about growing up, making mistakes, finding your people and choosing to see something beautiful through it all.”
Connolly is also excited that her music is finding an audience in South Africa thanks to Jones’ roots.
“I’m especially excited that this music is reaching South Africa because of Esjay’s roots. I’ve never been there, but I’d love to connect with listeners there one day, and I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce myself than with a ‘Beautiful Life’.”
The song captures the excitement of young love, friendship and carefree summer moments while carrying a message about embracing uncertainty. The release is accompanied by a music video directed by Kev Creature, adding another layer to the story Piper wants to tell through her music.
Jones said that Connolly’s greatest strength goes beyond her voice.
“In my 25 years of making records, from South Africa to Los Angeles, I’ve learned that talent opens the door, but authenticity is what makes people stay. Piper has a rare combination of authenticity and audacity. She’s not just a gifted singer and songwriter. She has a strong sense of who she is, which is incredibly rare, especially at 15.”
She believes that “Beautiful Life” is only the beginning.
“‘Beautiful Life’ is the first chapter of a much bigger story, and helping shape that journey has been one of the most rewarding creative experiences I’ve had in recent years. We’re not just making songs. We’re building a world that’s uniquely Piper’s.”
Jones also hopes that South African audiences will embrace the young artist.
“As a South African, it means a lot to share her music with the country that first believed in me. I think local audiences will connect with her honesty and the way she makes people feel something real.”
Co-written by Connolly, Jones and Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft, with mastering by Nathan Dantzler of The Hit Lab, the song introduces an artist who is finding her voice while creating music that speaks to listeners of every age.
