Newcastle-based twin sisters Dolder have released their latest single ‘Bone Structure’, a quietly beautiful meditation on heartbreak that follows their single ‘Sleeping Dogs’ released in February and their 2025 EP ‘The Motive’.
Stripped-back acoustic guitars open the track, then melt into the background, allowing the perfectly twinned harmonies to shine through. While their songwriting draws on artists such as boygenius, Gracie Abrams, and Fleetwood Mac, their music feels distinctly true to their roots. Beyond their technical ability as vocalists, Danielle and Zara Dolder share a deep connection and understanding of each other that directly translates to their music, making for an intimate listen.
There are undertones of heartbreak and betrayal as they sing: “I hate your guts, love your bone structure/ Miss you like I’m grieving/ I′m pathetically scheming for you.” The track centres around the tumultuous aftermath of a manipulative relationship, and explores what happens when someone you once loved reveals their true colours. There is a conflict between hating the person’s actions, but still yearning for them. Yet towards the end of the track, there is a realisation that this person was not worthy of admiration: “But now you’re Ray Bans on a circus clown.”
Their sound carries influences of folk, indie, and country music with a nostalgic feel to it. Different elements, including piano, synthesisers, and understated percussion, are woven together cohesively with Dolder’s vocals in an acoustic symphony. It is a well-produced track with emotionally charged lyrics, delicately beautiful harmonies, and a carefully considered structure.
The band is gearing up for a UK tour this Spring and is set to play at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton.
