Former Italian lawmaker Alessandra Mussolini has won the celebrity edition of the television show “Big Brother” in her home country.
The 63-year-old granddaughter of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini emerged victorious over 15 contestants after more than 1,500 hours of reality television during the Tuesday night finale.
Celebrating her success on private broadcaster Mediaset’s Canale 5 channel, Mussolini said: “I enjoyed everything to the fullest, just as I am. I regret nothing.”
She will receive prize money of €100,000 ($116,000), half of which will be donated to charity.
Mussolini was as a member of the European Parliament, but also served in both chambers of the Italian parliament. She initially belonged to a small neo-fascist far-right party before later joining former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party. She is now a member of the right-wing populist governing party Lega.
Before entering politics, she worked as a model, actress and singer.
The celebrity version of Big Brother, known in Italy as “Grande Fratello VIP,” has been running for a decade. Mussolini also appeared in 2020 on the dance competition “Ballando con le stelle” — Italy’s version of “Dancing with the Stars” — where she finished in third place.
Alessandra is the daughter of Romano Mussolini, the youngest son of Benito Mussolini, and his first wife, Maria Scicolone, the sister of film star Sophia Loren. She has sparked controversy for refusing to distance herself from her grandfather.
