A mystery letter claims to know the name of the person who has kidnapped Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy.
Nancy has been reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, residence since Feburary 1, with authorities believing the 84-year-old was abducted in her sleep. In the latest update in the case, TMZ claims that they were sent an anonymous note just before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, from someone offering to give up information on the alleged kidnapper.
The alleged note sent to the news outlet reads, “If they want the name of the individual involved then I want 1 Bitcoin to the following wallet. Time is more than relevant.”
Attached to the message was a legitimate bitcoin address which was different than the address included in the original alleged ransom note sent to TMZ and two other Tuscon-based television stations.
The request specifically asked for 1 Bitcon in exchange, which is worth approximately $66,000. In the original unverified ransom letter sent to TMZ, the kidnappers were requesting millions in Bitcoin in return for Nancy’s safe return home.
While the legitimacy of the ransom note has not been confirmed, both the FBI as well as Savannah and her sibling’s have addressed the kidnapper’s demands. In an Instagram video, the family confirmed that they are willing to pay the requested sum in order to have closure in their mother’s dissappearance.
In the clip, Savannah said, “We received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
This update comes just one day after the FBI has released the first-ever image of a subject in the disappearance of Nancy. On Tuesday, Feburary 10, four black-and-white images were released to the public picturing a masked individual standing in front of Nancy’s home the morning after she was last seen.
In addition to the images, Pima County Sheriff’s Department shared, “Working with our partners – as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”
Authorities added that they have been working closely with private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy’s home that might’ve been lost or corrupted. They explained that they also removed all recording devices from her home in search of lead, and that they recovered video footage from “residual data located in backend systems.”
Savannah has encouraged anyone with information regarding Nancy’s case to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
