N.J. ‘Scrubs’ star joining Zach Braff, Donald Faison and more in series revival

The old Sacred Heart Hospital crew is swiftly reassembling.

First there was J.D., then Turk and Elliot, then Carla.

Now: Dr. Perry Cox.

That’s right, New Jersey’s own John C. McGinley is joining fellow Jersey star Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke and Judy Reyes in the “Scrubs” revival, per reports from Deadline, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

McGinley, 66, played Perry Cox in all nine seasons of “Scrubs,” which started out on NBC in 2001 and ended on ABC in 2010.

ABC will also be the home for the revival series, which welcomes back original characters from the show while adding new faces.

McGinley, a New York native who grew up in Short Hills (he’s an alum of Millburn High School), was a gem as Cox on the show.

The doctor’s withering put-downs always kept Braff’s character, John “J.D.” Dorian, on his toes (watch clips below).

Cox started the popular comedy series, created by Bill Lawrence, as an attending physician, eventually becoming chief of medicine at Sacred Heart, then a professor.

Braff, who grew up in South Orange, was the first cast member to be announced for the revival series.

Faison, who plays J.D.’s friend and colleague Christopher Turk, was next, alongside, Chalke, who plays Elliot Reid.

Before McGinley, Reyes, who plays head nurse Carla Espinosa, was the latest addition to the cast from the original “Scrubs” lineup.

Lawrence, the series creator, is returning as an executive producer of the revival from showrunners Aseem Batra and Tim Hobert, who were writers on the original show.
