As the search for Nancy Guthrie reaches its 12th day, her last messages on the community platform Nextdoor are attracting fresh scrutiny.
Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her residence in the Catalina Foothills area just north of Tucson on Feb. 1, 2026. She had been a resident there since 1975, her Nextdoor profile shows, and regularly called the neighborhood “cat five” or “cat foot 5.”
Her presence on the app showed a deep-rooted tie to her community. Her last message, posted December 28, inquired whether a neighbor was missing an Amazon delivery before her disappearance.
It was one of just two messages she shared in 2025, mere months before she went missing.
Throughout the years, Guthrie turned to the platform to seek guidance and suggestions from neighbors. She looked for someone to renovate her pool and requested directions to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

She also regularly posted inquiries about maintaining plants in Arizona’s desert conditions. “Is it time to cover plants?” she asked on January 4, 2024, referring to putting a protective layer over her outdoor plants to protect them from frost.
Her curiosity about area wildlife was also apparent. “Will Javelina eat the firecracker plant?” she asked on May 7, 2023.
While her posts predominantly focused on home and garden matters, she sometimes voiced concerns. On September 4, 2020, she reported a stolen delivery. “Male thieves. A package was stolen from the front door yesterday. Be alert US POST OFFICE DELIVERED,” she wrote.

In November 2021, she sought advice from neighbors regarding security cameras – though not mainly for safety reasons, but to watch wildlife after dark.
“I’m thinking about buying a ring or a Nest security/doorbell camera? Any suggestions? Which has the best camera? Interested in seeing animal activity at night,” she wrote.
Security cameras have now become a crucial element in the investigation into her disappearance. On February 10, authorities released footage from a Google Nest camera showing a man interfering with it.
The Catalina Foothills neighborhood is typically regarded as one of Tucson’s safer districts. According to CrimeGrade.org, which assigns grades from A+ to F to neighborhoods, most of Tucson scores in the red to orange range for overall crime.
The Catalina Foothills is mostly green with some yellow, signaling lower crime rates. Guthrie’s street sat between a light green and light orange zone.
The map indicates the area sees more property crime than violent crime.
A separate crime map managed by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department shows almost no criminal incidents in Guthrie’s immediate vicinity. Residents in the area have come forward in recent days.
On February 5, Laura Gargano spoke with reporters after sharing details with private security staff concerning the alleged abduction at Guthrie’s home.
In previous social media posts, Guthrie had reminisced about her deep roots in the neighborhood. “Christmas memories. We had just moved into our house the spring before when several people on horseback came to our door singing Christmas carols,” she posted on December 13, 2020.
“It was such a delightful welcome, knowing no one and spending the holidays with just our little family. It never happened again. Does anyone else remember?”
