Access Hollywood, Steve Wilkos and Karamo cancelledNBCUniversal
(NBCUniversal)
NBCUniversal is getting out of the first-run syndicated television programming business. The mass media conglomerate announced on Friday that it would be canceling daytime talk shows The Steve Wilkos Show and Karamo, as well as entertainment magazine shows Access Hollywood and Access Live.
Steve Wilkos and Karamo have wrapped production, with new episodes already taped and set to air throughout the summer. Both Access Hollywood and Access Live will finish production through the summer before it wraps.
In a released statement, Chairman of Bravo & Peacock unscripted for NBCUniversal, Frances Berwick, said:
NBCUniversal is making changes to our first-run syndication division to better align with the programming preferences of local stations. The company will remain active in the distribution of our existing program library and other off-network titles, while winding down production of our first-run shows. These shows have provided audiences with great talk and entertainment content for many years and we’re very proud of the teams behind them.

Access Hollywood was in production for 30 years, starting in 1996. The Steve Wilkos Show spun off from The Jerry Springer Show after Wilkos served as a bodyguard for the former for years, until he got his own show in 2007.
This latest news comes right after NBCU announced The Kelly Clarkson Show would wrap later on this year.
Daytime Talk shows are starting to take a hit as video podcasts become the norm, easier and cheaper to produce than their broadcast counterparts.
