Neil Young has officially released his new single, ‘Big Crime’, on streaming platforms.
The track, which was recently premiered by the legendary singer-songwriter in Chicago, sees Young let his feelings be known on Donald Trump, as well as the wider administration in Washington, while calling for an end to the MAGA rule.
Last week, Young played ‘Big Crime’ live for the first time during his concert at Chicago’s Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island with the Chrome Hearts on August 27th. He has since played it live during subsequent shows in Milwaukee and at Fiddler’s Green.
While there was no recording from the live version he played in Chicago, Young did share audio of his band rehearsing the song during soundcheck, which he posted on his website along with the full lyrics to ‘Big Crime’.
During the track, Young passionately sings, “Don’t need no fascist rules, Don’t want no fascist school, Don’t want soldiers on our streets, There’s big crime in DC at the White House.” He also adds, “No more money to the fascists, The billionaire fascists, Time to blackout the system.”
On the final verse, Young delivers another vicious blow to Trump, “NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, No NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, There’s big crime in DC at THE White House, There’s big crime in DC at THE White House, NO MORE GREAT AGAIN, No NO MORE GREAT AGAIN.”
Despite Trump previously attending many concerts by Young in the past, the singer-songwriter has been steadfast in his criticism of him as a politician.
Earlier this year, Young even expressed his fears about not being allowed to re-enter America following his European tour due to his criticism, writing in a post on his website: “If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back, what does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture.”
However, he did extend an olive branch in June, writing in another post on the Neil Young Archives, “We will not be doing a political show. We will be playing the music we love for all of us to enjoy together. President Trump, you are invited. Come and hear our music just as you did for decades.”
