It’s still relatively early in November, but Netflix already seems poised to enjoy a very good month of movies.
When a Netflix original like the big-budget remake of Frankenstein races to the No. 1 slot and holds it for an extended period, that’s money well spent. It may also be an awards contender for the streamer.

Our other picks include the beginning of a comedy franchise and a legal drama with some powerhouse performances.
‘Frankenstein’ (2025)
The new Frankenstein by director Guillermo del Toro wasn’t a huge hit during its limited theatrical release, but it’s a streaming blockbuster that’s already the No. 1 movie on Netflix. Oscar Isaac stars as the title character, Baron Victor Frankenstein, a man who seems determined to improve on God’s design for man.
In his arrogance, Victor breaks the laws of nature and man by bringing the Creature (Jacob Elordi) to life. Del Toro’s film restores the dueling narratives to the film as Victor’s story unfolds before the Creature gets the last word. Mia Goth costars as both Victor’s mother, Baroness Claire Frankenstein, and his brother’s fiancée, Elizabeth Harlander. As you might expect from a del Toro movie, Elizabeth’s relationship with the Creature is complex.

‘The Hangover’ (2009)
Before comedies became an endangered species in theatrical releases, The Hangover was a blockbuster that turned Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis into movie stars. They respectively play Phil Wenneck and Alan Garner, two members of the self-proclaimed Wolfpack with Stu Price (Ed Helms) and Doug Billings (Justin Bartha).

With Doug missing, Mike Tyson angry at them and an angry Chinese gangster, Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), breathing down their necks, the Wolfpack has to piece together what they did the night before so they can find Doug and get him to his wedding.

‘Just Mercy’ (2019)
Before going on to direct Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day for Marvel, Destin Daniel Cretton helmed a legal biopic called Just Mercy, which is based on the life story of Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan), an idealistic defense attorney who dedicates his life to ensuring poor men and women of color receive adequate representation when facing serious charges in court.
When Stevenson meets a convicted murderer, Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), he becomes convinced that McMillian is innocent and that there’s no real evidence in the case against him. Proving that in court is very difficult, thanks to police intimidation tactics and other underhanded means. But even when Stevenson is directly confronted by crooked cops, he refuses to back down from the fight of his life.
