It’s official! After months of speculation, Nev Schulman has confirmed that MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show has been cancelled. It’s a bummer, but the signs have been there.
Co-host Kamie Crawford exited the show months ago. Nev announced a new real estate career. Plus, MTV completely ghosted the show’s social media accounts. Now that the news is official, Nev and his original co-host, Max Joseph, are speaking out about the show’s 12-year run.
Catfish has been canceled after almost 300 episodes
Fans of Catfish have spent the last year scouring for details about the show’s future. Last month, Nev announced that he had started a new career in real estate, which seemed to suggest that the show wouldn’t return.
This week, multiple sources spoke to Variety, and they confirmed that MTV pulled the plug. The show is over. Nev and Max, who is still sporting that signature white hair, jumped onto an Instagram video to address the show’s end.
“After 12 years, almost 300 episodes, and just a lot of traveling around this incredible country, a lot of phone calls, a lot of FaceTimes, a lot of reverse image searches, Catfish has officially been canceled,” Nev said in the video.
Max teased, “Maybe it’s just on pause. I was about to come back!”
“The point is, Catfish as we’ve known it is over, which is sad,” Nev continued. “But at the same time, what an incredible journey it’s been. First of all, huge, huge thank you to our crew.”
Nev went on to thank all of the people who supported the show behind the scenes. Curiously, he failed to mention Kamie in his farewell message to Catfish. She previously revealed that they hadn’t spoken since her exit, so make of that what you will. However, 12 hours after posting the farewell video, Nev later updated it with a comment: “And a HUGE thank you to Kamie too, of course!”
On the other hand, Nev did express plenty of gratitude to the fans and to Max for his years on the show. He concluded the message with a hilarious callback to one of the show’s most iconic moments.
“Max, I’m grateful to you for really being there from day one,” Nev continued. If we leave you with one thing, it’s this: No matter what ever happens in your life, no matter how someone treats you, no matter how angry or upset you are, never call someone a fat-ass Kelly Price. Alright?”
