A building that once handled deposits and loans in downtown Auburn will soon deal in something different: games, drinks and social entertainment.
After launching Yeti Tavern and Das Flipperhaus, business owner Dallas Drake is turning his attention to a new social entertainment business in downtown Auburn.
The building at 949 Lincoln Way, now home to Drake’s new business, The Vault, once housed the Placer Savings and Loan Association. Now, it features duckpin bowling, pinball and video arcade games.
He described the space as a place where adults can relax without a formal atmosphere.
“I am a firm believer that you can have a high end, upscale product that isn’t super serious,” Drake said. “ I just am personally tired of going to restaurants and it’s always this very buttoned up tight collar type of place that makes it trying to do something maybe it isn’t.”
He said he wants The Vault to feel upscale, clean and welcoming to all ages.
“We don’t have TVs, we have a place where people can play games and interact with each other,” Drake said. “It’s been really cool seeing families get off the screen time and actually spend time together doing fun activities.”
Drake said the project took nearly two years and $2 million to complete.
“Can you really put a price on unique, one of a kind things?” he said, reflecting on the investment.
Drake said since The Vault opened March 27, it has drawn strong community interest.
“It’s pretty cool that we get all of our same customers that are excited we built something new for them,” he said.
He said he plans to host live events and participate in community activities, including Fourth of July events with the Chamber of Commerce.
