Newark is where music lives, and the New Jersey Symphony is proud to call the city home. As the resident orchestra of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), which is also the home of the Symphony’s mainstage season, New Jersey Symphony anchors its season with world-class performances while playing a key role in enhancing the Essex County city’s vibrant cultural landscape.
Through collaborations with organizations including The Newark Museum of Art, Newark Public Library, the City of Newark and Newark Arts — as well as community and corporate partners — the New Jersey Symphony extends its presence beyond NJPAC. Its musicians perform at parks, street fairs, schools, health care facilities and neighborhood celebrations, sharing live music wherever Newark residents gather.
“NJPAC in Newark has been the home of the New Jersey Symphony mainstage events since its opening, and we are honored to be the resident orchestra of NJPAC and to be a part of the city’s dynamic arts scene,” said New Jersey Symphony President and CEO Terry D. Loftis. “Whether performing on the NJPAC stage, serving Newark’s youth through education programs, partnering with community organizations or sharing music at events throughout Newark and beyond, great music belongs to everyone. Through these experiences, we are reinforcing what it means to be your New Jersey Symphony.”
Community Partners
The New Jersey Symphony’s Community Partners program brings chamber music directly to audiences across New Jersey, creating meaningful experiences in schools, community centers, health care facilities, senior living communities, houses of worship, parks and other gathering spaces. With more than 150 events annually in all 21 counties, the program connects residents of all ages with the power of live music.

2026-27 Season announced. Symphony Center Development Continues in Jersey City
The New Jersey Symphony recently announced its 2026–27 season under Music Director Xian Zhang, which will officially begin in October. The season includes more than 50 mainstage concerts at venues in Newark, New Brunswick, Princeton, Morristown and Red Bank as well as at schools and public spaces.
In 2024, the Symphony announced plans for a new permanent office, rehearsal and 550-seat performing arts venue in Jersey City, which is starting construction soon. “We are excited about what this next chapter means for the New Jersey Symphony,” said Joanna Borowski, vice president of Education & Community Engagement “As we progress toward the opening of our Jersey City space, we see new opportunities to expand educational programming, and create a more intimate setting for chamber music and smaller-scale performances.
