Though Nine Inch Nails went on a massive tour this year, most of their musical endeavours have been focused on film scores over the past few years. That is, until now, as Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross might be gearing up to put out a new studio album soon.
Speaking with Consequence, the duo admitted that their hesitation to tour came from not knowing how to present their songs in a way that was new and exciting. Since the success of their Peel It Back tour, the Nine Inch Nails fire has been reignited to the point that they’re working on new music.
“We are working on new stuff and we’re excited to work on it, and we are prioritizing working on Nine Inch Nails over just taking on every single thing that comes up in the other category,” Reznor said. “So, beyond that, I can’t say much, but the difference between now and a year ago is the fuse has been lit and the desire is there.”
Late last year, Reznor hinted that Nine Inch Nails might be ready to start working on music again soon, following his and Ross’s scores for Challengers and Tron: Ares. “We’re ready to be back in the driver’s seat,” he told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
This upcoming album would be the project’s first since 2020’s ambient efforts Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts, though their last conventional album was 2018’s Bad Witch.
