Music-focused non-profit New Music USA has announced the appointment of Vanessa Rose as its new president and CEO. Starting her tenure in October, Rose succeeds Vanessa Reed, who held the role from 2019 to 2025.
Rose brings to her new role more than 20 years of experience in executive leadership in the arts, with her recent role at the helm of the American Composers Forum (ACF). She has led the organisation since 2019, overseeing the acquisition of multimedia platform I Care If You Listen, and collaborations with National Sawdust, the American Composers Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, The Juilliard School of Music Preparatory Division and the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians™ (AACM).
New Music USA Board of Directors co-chair Anne-Marie Spataru said: ‘Vanessa Rose’s appointment represents a natural evolution of her life’s work as a passionate advocate for composers and performers working in new music. Her proven ability to lead transformational change, build equity-centered programs, and expand organizational reach while maintaining deep community connections makes her the ideal leader to guide New Music USA into its next chapter of growth and national impact.’
A violinist and graduate of the Eastman School of Music and Mannes College of Music, Rose also brings to New Music USA administrative experience including positions with the International Contemporary Ensemble, The Knights orchestral collective, the Lark Play Development Center, and American Composers Orchestra as well as the Metropolitan Opera and League of American Orchestras.
Rose said: ‘Having worked alongside New Music USA for years, I’m thrilled to now join the organization at this exciting moment in its history. New Music USA has long been a vital national resource, and I’m honored to help advance its mission in this next chapter, empowering our dynamic community of artists and listeners.’
New Music USA provides over $1 million in annual grant funding, as well as presenting mentorship and learning and community programmes. As president and CEO, Rose will serve as New Music USA’s chief strategist, fundraiser, communicator, and team leader, heading up a national board and team of 10 staff, with an annual operating budget of approximately $3.2 million,
