The new History Ottawa music venue on Rideau Street will open in August, according to entertainment giant Live Nation.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) announced in early 2024 that it had bought the former Chapters bookstore near Rideau station and the Rideau Centre mall.
The NCC then announced in February 2025 that it was partnering with Live Nation Canada to open a two-storey venue with capacity for about 2,000 people.
The first round of concerts begins with The Wallflowers on Aug. 20 and ends with Wolf Parade on Dec. 11. Acts in between include Bahamas, Sabaton and Ottawa’s Talk.
History’s general manager and senior operations manager are coming from Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom, supported by workers from Live Nation’s Ottawa office.
The new venue will be comparable to the 2,200-capacity concert space at Ottawa’s Hard Rock casino and the National Arts Centre’s Southam Hall, which has more than 2,000 seats.
