Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner was seen for the first time in court after his arrest over the murders of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Nick, 32, was present in the court room on Wednesday, December 17, wearing a suicide vest, according to FOX News. He did not enter a plea. His attorney, Alan Jackson told the court it was “too early” for his client to enter a plea, per The New York Times. The outlet reported Nick’s arraignment was continued until Jan. 7.

Rob and Michele were found dead in their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a spokesperson for the family said in a statement to Variety at the time. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home on December 14, 2025. TMZ reported at the time that the Los Angeles Fire Department had been called to the scene in the afternoon to administer “medical aid.” It was later reported that a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman had been […]

Us Weekly subsequently confirmed Nick was arrested on a murder charge after his parents were stabbed to death. The Los Angeles Police Department Parker City Jail told Us on Monday, December 15, that Nick was being held without bail.

The following day, Nick failed to appear in court, with his attorney Jackson telling reporters on Tuesday, December 16, that he’d yet to be “medically cleared” to attend a hearing. As a result, Nick’s ability to appear in court was expected to be decided on a “day-to-day” basis.

Prior to the discovery of Rob and Michele’s bodies, Rob and Nick reportedly had a “very loud argument” at Conan O’Brien’s holiday party on Saturday, December 13, per TMZ. A source told Us that Nick was acting “creepily” at the event, going “up to people” and “asking if they were famous.”

Rob and Michele — who were 78 and 68, respectively — married in May 1989. In addition to Nick, the couple shared son Jake, 34, and daughter Romy, 27. Rob was also the adoptive father of his late ex-wife Penny Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, 61.

Before Nick Reiner was arrested in connection to his parents Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s deaths, their son had been candid about how addiction contributed to their complicated relationship over the years. Rob and Michele, who wed in 1989, shared three children: Jake, Nick and Romy. (Rob also adopted ex-wife Penny Marshall‘s daughter, Tracy.) […]

Over the years, Nick has been forthcoming about his struggles with addiction, which led to tension with his family and periods of homelessness. After he was accused of his parents’ murders, a source exclusively told Us that Nick had “always been hostile and volatile” toward his family.

“Nick’s problems have been going on for so long, so while everyone is in a state of shock right now, it’s not entirely surprising,” an insider said at the time.

“A lot of his anger was directed at his parents for many, many years,” the source continued. “They did everything a parent could possibly do to help him. Even in his younger years, they really tried to get him help. And then it became a cycle of seeking treatment for him, kicking him out or him leaving the house, him moving back in.”

According to the insider, “This went on for years.”

As one source put it, “It didn’t feel like an ‘if’ but only a matter of ‘when’ something catastrophic would happen.”
