Nicole Kidman put her own spin on an early 2000s hairstyle at the premiere of her upcoming comedy series, “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” out Wednesday on Apple TV.
The “Babygirl” actress arrived outside the Regal Union Square with her multicolored hair tied loosely in a high ponytail, which twisted at the crown of her head and fell in loose waves down her back. Her bangs — a striped mix of bleached-blond and orange hues — were strewn across her forehead; the long ends tickled her lashes.

The embellished pony was the work of WWD’s Hairstylist of the Year, Adir Abergel, whose client list also includes Charlize Theron, Mariska Hargitay and Kristen Stewart. To create the look, Abergel used products by Virtue Labs, the hair care brand for which he serves as creative director and official celebrity stylist. With the upcoming premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” just around the corner, Anne Hathaway has been honoring the original film, which was released in 2006, with a Y2K pony similar to Kidman’s. In Tokyo, the brunette actress pulled her dark ends in a sleek tail protruding from the crown of her head, leaving just her bangs and face-framing fringe behind. The hairdo was a reference to the signature aesthetic of her character, Andy Sachs, post-Runway makeover.
Though Hathaway and Abergel have collaborated countless times, artist Orlando Pita has handled her “The Devil Wears Prada 2” press tour. Pita and Hathaway also worked together to create her half-up, half-down hairdo for the 98th annual Academy Awards in March, as well as her slick side part for the Bulgari Serpenti campaign, which she starred in alongside fellow global ambassador Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

While Hathaway pays homage to her old look, Kidman’s pony marks a new chapter in the evolution of her fiery hair. From golden curls to straight, strawberry blond ends, the 58-year-old has, for the most part, stayed within the parameters of her warm-toned hair coloring and curly texture. The 1990s and early 2000s saw Kidman don a kaleidoscope of red, orange and blond hues, waterfalling from her brunette roots. While she often reached for her flat-iron over the years, her coils became part of her trademark persona and eventually evolved into wide-barrel waves. Now she’s taking the styling to new heights.
