Nicole Kidman may seem fearless, but there’s one thing that absolutely scares her — and we don’t blame her one bit. The Practical Magic star opened up about raising her teen daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14, who she shares with ex Keith Urban, in a raw new interview, and we are admiring the way she navigates one particularly “frightening” experience.
In a new interview with Vogue, Kidman shared the advice she gives her daughters about online haters and judgements: “Literally walk away from it,” she told the outlet. “Because it will fell you. It will destroy you.” Kidman, who tells her daughters to follow Taylor Swift’s advice to “shake it off” says that thinking about online discourse as her daughters step into the entertainment industry scares her.

“It’s very frightening for me,” Kidman admitted about Sunday making her modeling debut walking for Miu Miu last year. “[But] I started working at 14, so I don’t really have a leg to stand on.” Her honesty is admirable, as is the way she clearly wants better for her daughters than she had. And it’s nice to see her supporting her daughters’ dreams even though it makes her nervous.
Kidman is doing her best to model (ha!) how to navigate the public life while keeping your personal life private. Despite filing for divorce from her husband of 19 years on Sept. 30, Kidman walked the runway last week for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week with her daughters by her side.
In a recent interview with Nylon, Sunday opened up about how watching her mom work while growing up inspired her. “Growing up, I went to my mom’s photo shoots a lot and got to observe, which definitely led to my interest in exploring the modeling world,” she told the outlet.
Sunday also shared the rules her parents set for her as she took the next step in the modeling world. “There are two big rules. The first was that I couldn’t explore any kind of fashion work until I was 16, and the second is that school always has to come first,” she said. “Which at first I hated, but I am actually really glad that I have these rules in place because it keeps me in a good mindset.”
Seeing the rules set up for the teens and the way Kidman is by their side to help them stay grounded shows that she will be there for them every step of the way. She may be frightened that they are stepping out into the world (and opening themselves up to online criticism), but she is handling it in a smart, considerate way, and we love her all the more for it.
These celebrity kids want to follow in their parents’ footsteps.
