O.J. Simpson’s lawyer has called out Sean “Diddy” Combs for the “stupid and arrogant” error the music mogul made before his sentencing hearing.

P Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison on October 3 for two counts of transportation for prostitution at a hearing in New York City. His legal team was reportedly vying for a 14-month sentence, a significantly shorter period of time than the maximum sentence of 20 years.

During the sentencing, Diddy apologized to his ex, Cassie Ventura, for his actions, saying, “I want to personally apologize again to Cassie Ventura for any harm or hurt that I’ve caused to her, emotionally or physically. I don’t take that lightly. I would like to apologize to her family. I’m so sorry.”

However, Diddy clearly didn’t believe he would face any prison time as it’s been reported that he organized seven speaking arrangements following the hearing.

The events were said to be mostly in Miami, where Diddy lived before his arrest, but his lawyer, Xavier Donaldson, has said they weren’t speaking events, but “teaching engagements.”

“Contrary to what the government said — and I’m going to say this blatantly — we do need something for him to do if he does get out today,” Xavier said before adding that Diddy would spend time “not with speaking engagements, but with teaching engagements.”

Despite Xavier’s statement, O.J. Simpson’s lawyer and Harvard Law professor, Alan Dershowitz, told Fox News that the bookings were a “slap in the face,” and that Diddy had made a “stupid and arrogant” error in organizing them.

“I can’t imagine anything more stupid than that,” Dershowitz explained. “How anybody permitted him to do that … It’s just a slap in the face to the judge. It’s outrageous. I can’t imagine any lawyer or any responsible person allowing … I would have quit the case.”

Continuing, he reiterated that he would have dropped Diddy’s case, remarking, “If I had been Diddy’s lawyer and Diddy had said, ‘I’m gonna make an arrangement, and I’m going to make it public.’ I would’ve said, ‘Yeah, and you’re going to get a new lawyer. I’m not representing somebody who is so stupid and arrogant.'”

Dershowitz, who also worked on Donald Trump‘s legal team, then called the move “a kiss of death,” saying he wouldn’t have walked his clients “into a death chamber” like that.

Diddy will now spend up to 50 months in prison, with time served being taken into account. The court also imposed five years of supervised release and for the disgraced rapper to pay a $500,000 fine.
