QUINCY (WGEM) – There’s been no shortage of Polka and beer flowing in Quincy’s German Historic District this weekend.
The Rotary Club of Quincy’s annual Oktoberfest celebration kicked off Saturday at 10 a.m. and will last through 10 p.m.
This year’s festivities include live music, costume contests, beer cavern tours, and the fan-favorite 0.2-kilometer Beer and Brat Dash.
But according to one event organizer, Oktoberfest in Quincy is more than a block party.
“It’s a great event for the community — is what it really is,” said Quincy Rotary Club President Tommy Hendren. “It’s a blessing to us as Rotarians to be able to come out here (and) serve our community. It helps fund our projects locally… it’s huge to our club.“
Local projects funded and supported by the Rotary Club of Quincy include the John Wood Workforce Development Center, the Bill Klingner Trail bridge and more.
Rotary International also devotes funds to polio research among a wide array of other humanitarian causes.
