“Only Murders In The Building” stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez joined Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday to promote the fifth season of the hit show, but it didn’t take long before Martin and Short slipped in what sure seemed to be barbs at President Donald Trump and conservatives.
Martin began with what appeared to be a subtle dig at Trump supporters’ latest culture-war outrage. “I’m actually in a fantastic mood tonight because I was recently added back to the Cracker Barrel logo,” he quipped, referencing the restaurant chain’s decision to restore its old branding after backlash from MAGA critics.
Short ― who is no stranger to torching Trump ― followed with a line about the unreleased Epstein files: “Jimmy Fallon, or as the Epstein files know you as, ‘redacted.’” He then told Fallon, “Look how handsome you are, really! Your teeth are so white, your smile is like an email from Trump, all caps.”
Martin piled on with a nod to Trump’s immigration crackdowns and attacks on media figures. “I have to say, I know we’re just kind of being funny here, of all the late-night hosts, honestly, I will miss you most when you are deported to Uganda,” he joked.
Gomez mostly stayed quiet until Martin turned to her and asked if she had anything to add about Fallon. “No,” she deadpanned. “I’m happy here just watching you two struggle.”
Short wrapped the bit with a jab at Fox News’ flame-throwing late-night host Greg Gutfeld, who controversially appeared for an apolitical chat on Fallon’s show last month. “Well, I just love the show, I wish I could see it more. But, you know, it’s on so late and I’m kind of a ‘Gutfeld’ guy.’” he cracked.
