The voice of William Shakespeare continues to resonate centuries later, inspiring some of the greatest works in opera and musical theater. Gulfshore Opera (GO) presents a high-season concert series that highlights brilliant examples of his plays set to music. This musical journey through Shakespeare’s world includes scenes from the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi’s Shakespeare trio – Otello, Macbeth, and Falstaff – to Broadway hits like Kiss Me, Kate and West Side Story.
“This concert series gives us the opportunity to present highlights from great operas and shows that are not often performed in their entirety,” says General and Artistic Director Steffanie Pearce. “It’s truly something for everyone—a wonderful introduction to these masterpieces and an opportunity to experience world-class artists close to home.”
Featured performers include full lyric soprano Rebecca Krynski Cox, recently returned from a fest artist season at the Luzerner Theater in Switzerland, who will perform Desdemona’s death scene from Verdi’s Otello. She is joined by powerful and sonorous baritone Nathan Matticks and other nationally recognized opera artists. For tickets and information go to gulfshoreopera.org or call 239-529-3925.
