With updates dropping every day, anticipation for Marvel’s upcoming juggernauts, Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Doomsday, is through the roof. Amid all this excitement, fans can hardly contain their enthusiasm for the impressive ensemble casts the films are bringing. From the return of Marvel’s mutant X-Men to some member of the old gang, there is plenty to look forward to. However, one character will be noticeably absent: Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey.
The actor recently sat down for an interview with Kristian Harloff, where she broke the silence on the matter. She admitted she wasn’t asked to join Doomsday and, more importantly, isn’t interested in the opportunity which is understandable. Famke revealed she has been on an intensive learning curve as an executive producer for the Netflix series Amsterdam Empire, a role that allows her creative control and a level of input she wouldn’t expect to have on Doomsday.
“I would not be asked back on Doomsday, or somewhere else, with that type of input. That’s not what they want from me. It’s hard for me now to just look back and worry, or think about a part where I get a few lines,” she said. “It just doesn’t seem that interesting to me.”
Famke emphasized that she is in a different place in her career, which she has rightly earned. “I’m in a different place, and I’ve earned my way into this moment, and I’m running with it, because this is 80 films under my belt, and I’ve paid my dues.”
However, Famke hasn’t completely given up on the idea of associating with Marvel in a fun way, saying, “I’m not opposed to doing anything that’s just being part of a fun ensemble, or whatever it is.”
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, whereas Avengers: Secret Wars will release on December 17, 2027.
