Disney may be the most powerful media conglomerate in the galaxy, but even its own stars pushed back on the company’s aborted attempt to turn to the Dark Side.

Back in September, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel hopped on his ABC show and criticized the conservative narrative regarding the accused murderer of political activist Charlie Kirk, saying in his opening monologue, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Two days later, FCC chair Brendan Carr publicly demanded that ABC affiliates to pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel Live! under threat of losing their broadcasting licenses, with Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Media Group quickly obeying the orders. Shortly thereafter, Walt Disney Corporation CEO Bob Iger suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely. Of course, that “indefinite” suspension only ended up lasting six days following mass public outcry, and the return of Jimmy Kimmel Live! led to the biggest ratings bump of Kimmel’s late-night career.

Throughout the controversy, all the power players who conspired briefly kick Kimmel off television faced fierce public criticism over their wanton disregard for the First Amendment, even from a certain rebel pilot who isn’t exactly known for playing by the rules.

During a cover story interview with GQ that released this Monday, Oscar Isaac, who starred as Poe Dameron in three Star Wars films while also playing the title role in the Disney+ miniseries Moon Knight, expressed his hesitance to return to big-budget Disney projects given the company’s politically-motivated moves. Critically, GQ explained in the article, the outlet conducted the interview with Isaac just days after the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, but before Disney reneged on the controversial cancelation.

When asked about his past non-committal comments about returning to the Star Wars universe, Isaac said plainly, “I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney.” However, he said that his past patrons could win him back, so long as they correct some grievous mistakes.

“But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great,” Isaac said of Disney.

“If that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away,” Isaac concluded, “Or any number of other things.”

Seeing as, just days after Isaac spoke to GQ, Disney reinstated Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the door may be open for the A-lister to return to the Star Wars franchise or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney, on the other hand, may not be so keen on bringing Isaac back, now that they know he openly accused them of cozying up with fascists — but don’t worry. They’ll come around in about six days.
