Sinners made Oscar history with 16 nominations. One of them is for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures for “I Lied to You,” written by Ludwig Göransson.
Miles Caton and the rest of the cast recreated the performance in the juke joint on the stage. This time the other dancers who appeared from Sammie’s magic are other celebrities.
Sinners Cast Reunite for “I Lied to You” Performance
Buddy Guy was on stage before the first words were sung. Raphael Saadiq opened the song and passed it to Caton, who leaned against the bar. Jayme Lawson, who played Pearline and Li Jun Li, who played Grace, danced behind him.
Eric Gales, Jayme Lawson, Brittany Howard, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Bobby Rush, Shaboozey, and Alice Smith eventually joined the performance. Ballet dancer Misty Copeland danced her way to the front of the stage in the last moments of the performance.

Jack O’Connell, Lola Kirke, and Peter Dreimanis stood at the foot of the stairs of the stage, staying true to how the vampires were kept out of the party. The first win for Sinners was accepted not long after the performance.
Ryan Coogler won for Best Original Screenplay and received a standing ovation. “Zinzi [Evans], you are the best wife and mom in the world,” he told her. “Every day I get to spend with you is better than the one that came before it.” The director is the father of three finished with a message to his kids.
“And to my babies that are at home watching, I apologize for all the time away,” he said. “Daddy loves you. Memories are all we have. I hope I gave you some great ones. When you’re blessed to live a long life and Dad becomes just a memory, I want you all to remember this one thing: I love y’all more than anything.”
This was Coogler’s first Academy Award win.
