Our picks: Brevard's best weekend entertainment events for May 8-14

1. ‘Killer Queen’ at the King Center

Queen tribute band Killer Queen  brings their show to the King Center, 3865 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, on May 8 at 8 p.m. The show features Patrick Myers as Freddie Mercury. Tickets start at $49.95. Call 321-242-2219 or visit kingcenter.com.

2. Mother’s Day brunch at Brevard Zoo

Bring Mom to a wildly unique Mother’s Day brunch at Brevard Zoo’s Nyami Nyami River Lodge, 8225 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, on May 10. There will be two seatings, at 9:30 a.m. or noon. Start your celebration with a scavenger hunt through the zoo while discovering fun facts about animal moms. There will also be yard games, a special animal encounter and the chance to create animal enrichment items. The spring-inspired buffet brunch will be filled with seasonal flavorslike quiche, French toast, salmon cake piccata, a build-your-own salad station and more. 3. ‘Secret Garden’ tour

Keep Brevard Beautiful hosts the annual Secret Garden tour on May 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The self-guided tour features multiple private gardens, unique landscapes, creative designs and inspiration for garden and nature enthusiasts. Tickets for $10 include a booklet with addresses of garden locations, which include everything from lush native plantings to charming backyard retreats. Proceeds will benefit Keep Brevard Beautiful. 4. Putta Palooza in downtown Melbourne

Experience downtown Melbourne one putt at a time on Saturday, May 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting with check-in at 10 a.m. at the Matt’s Casbah patio, 724 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne. Participating shops and restaurants will provide creative putting greens for a day of fun and friendly competition. Tickets for $30 include a golf ball, scorecard, map and a drink token for use at Hotel Melby. Visit downtownmelbourne.com.

5. Live theater around Brevard

  • ‘Prelude to a Kiss’: The play “Prelude to a Kiss” will be at Surfside Playhouse, 301 Ramp Road, Cocoa Beach, through May 17. At Peter and Rita’s wedding, a mysterious old man insists on kissing the bride. While honeymooning, Peter gradually realizes that the woman by his side is not his wife. Tickets start at $32.   • ‘Rock of Ages’: The musical “Rock of Ages” will be at Cocoa Village Playhouse, 300 Brevard Ave., Cocoa, through May 17. The show takes you back to the time of big bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair, featuring the hits of bands including Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and more.   • ‘Spring Awakening’: The musical “Spring Awakening” will be at Titusville Playhouse, 301 Julia Street, Titusville, through May 24. The show is an angsty rock musical adaptation of the seminal play about the trials and tribulations of growing up. Tickets start at $32. Call 321-268-1125 or visit titusvilleplayhouse.com.

6. Art events in EGAD

  • Dreamland Miniature Golf: Derek Gores Gallery, 1418 Highland Ave., in the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD), hosts Dreamland Miniature Golf on Tuesdays through Sundays starting at 11 a.m. The 18 hole indoor putt putt course was designed by local artists and creatives. There is also a seasonal “Wonder & Wander” scavenger hunt included with each ticket. Admission starts at $20 for adults or $14 for ages four through 11. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.   • ‘Create Your World’ summer art camps: Registration is open for a series of weekly “Create Your World” summer art camps at Derek Gores Gallery, 1418 Highland Ave., Melbourne. Young artists in grades Pre-K and up will be encouraged to use creative thinking skills using art techniques including paint, 3D, kinetic art, collage, printmaking, drawing and mixed media. Options are available for full day, morning and afternoon camps from June 16 through Aug. 7. The cost for each camp is $340 for full day and $185 for morning or afternoon.
