Bad Bunny’s upcoming performance at the Super Bowl halftime show has taken yet another hit as critics have protested that he should be replaced.
Rather than see the Puerto Rican singer take one of the biggest stages in America, over 50,000 people have named country music singer George Strait as their preferred candidate.
Bad Bunny has received backlash from multiple sides since he was named as the headliner for the 2026 Super Bowl. President Donald Trump is part of a long list of people who have openly criticized the NFL for choosing Bad Bunny as the artist to grace the Super Bowl stage in February.

A petition on Change.org is requesting that the NFL boot Bad Bunny from the 2026 Super Bowl headliner role.
The petition, which now has over 50,000 signatures, states that George Strait should replace Bad Bunny because he “embodies the heart and soul of American music,” and has the “ability to transcend generations with his timeless songs [that resonate] with a diverse demographic.”
Per Entertainment Weekly, the petition further describes the Super Bowl Halftime show as an opportunity to pay tribute to America’s heritage and therefore should “unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt.”
It further argues that Bad Bunny does not represent any of the values mentioned above because “his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football’s biggest stage,” while “George Strait embodies unity, tradition, and the timeless American music that truly deserves the 2026 Super Bowl spotlight.”
Still making a case on why Strait should replace Bad Bunny as the show’s headliner, the petition also criticizes recent Super Bowl performances. It noted that lately, the halftime shows have leaned towards modern pop and international artistry, when instead, they should be focused on the “roots that have made American music what it is today.”

Besides the petition online, Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl performance was also opposed by Turning Point USA (TPUSA), led by the late Charlie Kirk.
According to The Blast, the organization announced its own halftime show slated for the same day as the Super Bowl, titled “The All American Halftime Show.”
Intending attendees of TPUSA’s rival halftime show were allowed to state their preferred song choices on the signup sheet. The choices listed notably took a dig at Bad Bunny’s Spanish songs, as one of them read “Anything in English.”

Before TPUSA announced its own halftime show, President Trump also aired his honest feelings on Bad Bunny’s impending performance.
Trump told Greg Kelly that he has never heard of Bad Bunny and doesn’t know who he is.
He also slammed the “crazy” NFL for choosing the Puerto Rican singer as the show’s headliner, saying, “I think it’s absolutely ridiculous,” per The Blast.
Bad Bunny Faced Public Backlash For Sitting Out ‘God Bless America’

Amid the heavy scrutiny Bad Bunny faced from the president, he also came under fire for choosing not to stand during a rendition of “God Bless America.”
The traditional seventh-inning rendition was sung during a New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays game, as The Blast reported. However, Bad Bunny appeared to be sitting down while others stood and sang with their hands over their hearts.
Numerous MAGA supporters slammed the “I Like It Singer” for his decision to sit down, writing, “THIS CARTOON RABBIT IS THE BEST THE NFL HAS TO OFFER THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR THE HALFTIME SHOW??!! Sorry, NFL, you have been DELETED! Send this rabbit back down the hole he came out of.”

A few days before Bad Bunny chose to sit out the “God Bless America” rendition at a baseball game, former race car driver Danica Patrick took a dig at Bad Bunny’s impending performance.
She shared a tweet on X voicing disapproval for the NFL’s choice of the Puerto Rican singer as the Super Bowl headliner. She sarcastically called the choice “fun” and wrote that “No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest-rated television events of the year… not just for sports,” per The Blast.
Patrick faced backlash for her comments, with many fans noting that Bad Bunny’s home, Puerto Rico, is part of the United States of America. Other fans pointed out that the singer has over 77 million monthly listeners and is therefore still relevant.
