OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — An Owensboro band is making new career moves. This comes after the group won a competition earning themselves a spot to perform at an upcoming NASCAR event in Nashville.
“We thought from the get go, either A, we’ve got this thing in the bag, or B, we’re the butt of a joke, you know what I mean?” Yellow Banks’ James Elliott said. “There was no in between, like, there’s no way they picked us, and we either are the jesters or the winners.”
A new spotlight is shining on the Owensboro band Yellow Banks. This comes after the team won the competition Nashville’s Next Rising Star competing with nearly 200 other acts.
“Your brain can’t comprehend the scale of this type of event, but at the end of the day, it’s the same formula,” Yellow Banks Drummer Bean Boyer said. “It’s the same thing we’ve been doing for the past two, four years, three and a half years. Whatever it is at this point, you’re getting up on stage with some of your brothers.”
Even as their careers are taking new heights and a larger venue coming their way the group is dedicated to staying true to their roots.
“We have finally gotten to this point doing exactly what we’re doing, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, so why change the formula?” says Elliot. “You know, keep writing music. Keep playing music. Make sure that you’re able to at least listen to it and then keep moving on.”
The band will perform at the Cracker Barrel 400 in Nashville on May 31.
