Ozzy Osbourne was very close to his longtime guitarist, Zakk Wylde. The legendary Black Sabbath singer died in July, just 17 days after his final performance with Wylde at the Back to the Beginning show, but their bond will never be broken. Osbourne, who was godfather to Wylde’s eldest son, may even be leaving his beloved friend signs from beyond.
On Sept. 12, Osbourne’s widow, Sharon, broke her social media silence by posting imagery from her new falconry hobby. She captioned a video that showed her and her daughter, Kelly, in a field with gorgeous birds flying to them, with, “The connection you make with these powerful birds is built entirely on trust and confidence. They’ll choose to perch on you only if they sense you are safe and unafraid of them. It’s a bond I know all too well, and the experience was nothing short of magical.”
In the comment section, Wylde’s wife, Barbaranne, made a touching revelation. “I love this so much for you and Kelly and now it makes perfect sense to me why Ozzy keeps leaving Zakk and I feathers. Every single day,” she wrote.
This is not the first time Barbaranne has commented on the feathers she has seen daily since Osbourne’s death on July 22.
During an appearance on the Honest AF podcast in August, she talked about Osbourne’s death. “The people that left you, they don’t want you to be sad,” she said. “And every single day, I know this is my witchy….Jack [Osbourne] said, ‘my dad was a little witchy’, and he was for sure. But it’s that thing, like every single day since he passed from the morning that Jack called me, I have found a feather in my path or Zakk has. And it’s the craziest thing because he loved my feather tattoo. And I’m like…even Zakk is just like, we have to start a book or keep them somehow because it’s crazy.”
“Every single day we wake up and it’s like in my purse or at the front door on the balcony,” she added. “It’s just astounding. You know, and it was like very funny, too, because his sense of humor was just off the charts.”
Barbaranne also shared stories of Osbourne’s “presence” at his funeral. She revealed that her husband played an acoustic version of Osbourne’s song, “Mama I’m Coming Home,” at the private service, but messed up one part of the song after flawlessly practicing it dozens of times earlier.
“He messed up the verse during the funeral, and he just giggled and then just continued on, and we were like, ‘Oh, it’s Ozzy f—ing with him,'” she said.
In addition, Barbaranne revealed that when Kelly Osbourne sang at the funeral, the gloomy sky turned bright blue. “But she had her lyrics on a music stand, and a gust of wind came and just blew them off and over,” she recalled. “And we were just laughing, we’re like it was Ozzy’s little contribution to having some fun with her and some fun with Zakk.”
Zakk Wylde previously shared details on his final text exchange with Osbourne.
Speaking to Guitar World in July, Wylde said he didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to Osbourne after Back to the Beginning because so many people were there.
“Everybody and their mother were in the backstage dressing room, and I just wanted to give him a break,” Wylde said. “I figured we’d see him later on — the next day or whatever. But no. The last text I got from Oz was saying, ‘Zakky, sorry, it was like a madhouse back there. I didn’t see you.’ He goes, ‘Thanks for everything.’ It was just us talking, saying, ‘I love you, buddy.’ That was it.”
