Param Sundari box office Day 2: Sidharth-Janhvi film sees growth, earns Rs 16 crore

Actor Sidharth Malhotra’s romantic-drama ‘Param Sundari’ initially witnessed a modest opening on its first day. However, the film, also featuring actor Janhvi Kapoor saw a remarkable growth in its Saturday collection.

‘Param Sundari’ earned Rs 7.25 crore on Friday, as reported by Sacnilk. The film, however, collected Rs 9.22 crore at the box office on its second day, the report stated. The movie now stands at Rs 16.47 crore in terms of its domestic box office collection.

This jump in earnings has led to ‘Param Sundari’ surpassing the lifetime collection of ‘Mere Husband Ki Biwi’. The film, featuring actors Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Rakul Preet Singh in pivotal roles, had collected Rs 12.85 crore.

Despite the growth, ‘Param Sundari’, which was compared to ‘Chennai Express’, is nowhere close to it in terms of second-day earnings. The Rohit Shetty directorial had collected Rs 28.05 crore on the very next day of its release. The movie featured Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.

Sidharth-Janhvi’s inter-cultural love story also could not match up with the first-day collection of director Mohit Suri’s ‘Saiyaara’. While ‘Param Sundari’ had mainstream stars, ‘Saiyaara’ marked actor Ahaan Panday’s debut opposite actor Aneet Padda, who was one film old. Ahaan-Aneet’s musical-romance earned Rs 21.5 crore on its first day of release.

‘Param Sundari’ narrates the story of two lead characters who hail from Delhi and Kerala, respectively. The movie stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi, with Rajeev Khandelwal and Aakash Dahiya also appearing in pivotal roles. The film’s soundtrack, specifically the song ‘Pardesiya’, garnered a lot of acclaim even before its release.

The movie, ‘Param Sundari’, received mixed reactions from audiences. While Sidharth played a Punjabi boy in the film, Janhvi played the role of a Keralite. Malayalam radio personality Pavithra Menon and content creator Steffi had criticised Janhvi’s casting in the Tushar Jalota directorial.
