Paula Deen once gave Ellen DeGeneres an unexpected gift.
In the former Food Network personality’s new documentary Canceled: The Paula Deen Story — which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival — she recalled how she gave DeGeneres, 67, a ham without realizing she was vegan, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“I walked out and I said, ‘I brought a ham for my favorite ham. Isn’t that sweet?’” Deen, 78, recalled per the outlet.
A clip of the cookbook author telling the former talk show host, “He’s so heavy, he’s your pig to keep up with now!” was played in the doc.
“She took it, laid it down, and didn’t say a word,” Deen recalled. “I found out later she was a vegetarian. She didn’t eat meat. I felt like a turd.”

A representative for DeGeneres clarified to EW that the comedian is actually a vegan, not a vegetarian.
As the National Enquirer previously reported, DeGeneres has been making headlines recently after Rosie O’Donnell confessed that the comedian dropping her as a friend in 2004 was “one of the most painful things that ever happened to me.”
Additionally, in August, a former cameraman on The Ellen DeGeneres Show told the Daily Mail that DeGeneres did not spread positivity on set, similarly to the workplace claims lodged against her in 2020.
“It was just weird — cameras on, she’d be dancing, doing all this fun stuff, and cameras off — she was terrifying,” the cameraman told the outlet.
