Since Peacemaker Season 2 began, the DC universe TV series has defied all sorts of traditions and expectations. Yes, James Gunn rebooted the DCU with the animated show Creature Commandos in 2024 and with the feature film Superman in the summer of 2025. And yet, vestiges of the old DCEU (the ad-hoc name given by the press to the previous DC Comics shared cinematic universe) remained in Gunn’s new DCU. Specifically, projects that he was connected to, I.E., the 2021 film The Suicide Squad, and the 2022 series Peacemaker Season 1.
But, in the past three years, and really, in the past few months, a ton has changed with this evolving shared universe, which is proving to be messier and stranger than the MCU, a comic book universe in which Gunn thrived, writing and directing all three Guardians of the Galaxy films. And, the success of both Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 has proven that Gunn is good at defying expectations about superhero narratives. This is especially true in the shocking events of Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 6, “Ignorance is Chris.” Here’s the deranged secret this episode revealed and why Gunn’s DCU will never be the same.
Peacemaker reveals the horrible nature of the other dimension
At the end of “Ignorance is Chris,” as Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) goes for a walk, we suddenly realize that this dimension is straight-up racist. Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) points out to Chris (John Cena) what fans have been noticing for weeks: There’s not a single non-white person anywhere in the alternate dimension.
And then, Chris turns over the American flag and realizes it has a Swastika on it. This is some version of the DC alternate dimension “Earth X,” a world in which Germany won WWII, and racism is the law of the land.
What is Earth-X?

Appearing in various versions of DC Comics, “Earth-X” last appeared on screen in the 2017 “Crisis on Earth-X” crossover series, part of The CW’s Arrowverse, which included the shows Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, and others. While Peacemaker has yet to outright reveal if this dimension is indeed still known as “Earth-X,” it’s pretty apparent that it has the same oppressive and horrible ideology.
How will the gang get out of this dimension? Can they even hope to fix it? And, what about that cameo from Lex Luthor? This episode ended on a pretty horrible cliffhanger, in which Adebayo was running for her life, and Chris was horrified by just how bad this dimension truly turned out to be.
