Pensacola baker Shanelle Long makes her return to television screens this month in her appearance on new Food Network series “Bake Master Battle.”
The series premiered on Oct. 22 on Food Network and streamed on Citytv+, and Long will appear the second Halloween episode the following week at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29.
Long, who is known for making off-the-wall creative cakes, appeared on a Halloween Amazon Prime mini-series called “Killer Cakes,” which aired last year and gave her exposure for “Bake Master Battle” casting directors.
“They really loved what I did,” Long said.
Long will now join the growing list of Pensacola’s family of Food Network stars, including James Briscione, Ed Lordman and Darian Hernandez.
Long was a longtime cake decorator at J’s Bakery and now works for herself at her own cottage bakery, Indulgence Bakehouse, serving scratch-made sourdough breads, 15 varieties of SINnamon rolls and of course, her eye-catching custom cakes.
Since creating her own bakery, she has been able to take on more opportunities such as competing on “Bake Master Battle,” which she traveled to film in Toronto, Canada, where they filmed the episode from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Not only does she enjoy the improvisation and challenge of the show, but she also appreciated the opportunity to meet and get to know her cake idols.

The episode will take three teams of two on a series of Halloween-related challenges, but Long said Pensacola watchers should also pick up on a special nod to the city during her episode. The winning team takes home a cash prize of $10,000.
Long said its surreal to see her career expand into competing on television, since those were the kind of shows she would watch when first starting out baking for a grocery store. Mainly self-taught, Long was able to pick up on different techniques and strategies and learn to successfully replicate them, despite the criticism and naysaying, she said. Now, she’s not only watching the bake-offs, she’s competing on them.
“When I got on that first one (show,) it was full-circle,” Long said.
While Long can’t give too much away about her episode of “Bake Master Battle” until it airs, you can tune in at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 to see how she fares.
