PETE FIJ (EX-ADORABLE) – “LOVE’S COMING BACK”
Pete Fij of ’90s-era Creation Records band Adorable is releasing his first-ever solo single this Friday, and his knack for guitar hooks and catchy choruses is still in fine form on this 7″. “After years of singing downbeat songs of melancholy and loss sitting alongside Terry Bickers – after waving goodbye to a long term relationship – after working at a care home during the Covid pandemic – after seeing people off from the platform of life in my role as a Funeral Celebrant – I decided to have a rese,t” Fij says.

JORGE ELBRECHT – “ES PREFERIBLE NO DECIR”
Jorge Elbrecht, who played in Lansing-Dreiden, Violens and other groups and has also produced No Joy, Caroline Polachek and more, has launched a Spanish-language solo project that still has his dreampop roots showing even if its in another language.

ULRIKA SPACEK – “SQUARE ROOT OF NONE”
London psych band Ulrika Spacek have shared the second single from their upcoming album EXPO. “Square Root of None” is pretty rad with spidery guitar parts, rat-a-tat drumming and a soaring chorus.

BIG SPECIAL – “DRAGGED UP A HILL (AND THROWN DOWN THE OTHER SIDE)”
UK duo Big Special (singer Joe Hicklin and drummer Callum Moloney) have followed up this year’s National Average album with a new single, the mournful “DRAGGED UP A HILL (and thrown down the other side)” that really shows off Hicklin’s pipes. “Bit of a tear jerker… not our usual,” they say, “It’s our Adele song if she was a labourer.”

It’s the first single of German band The Notwist’s 10th album and first in five years.
