STORRS — A Hungarian pianist will take the stage at the Jorgensen Center later this month as the first concert in the 2025-2026 Lenard Chamber Music Series.

Pianist Valentin Magyar will perform on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are still on sale for the concert.

Magyar, a 24-year-old musician, started playing the piano at the age of five in his native town of Balassagyarmat in Northern Hungary.

At only 14 years old, Magyar was admitted to the class of special talents at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.

Currently, Magyar is doing his masters with Gábor Farkas and Dénes Várjon, and simultaneously in Berlin at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy with Kirill Gerstein.

At a young age, Magyar has performed in several competitions and has won several awards, including a gold medal at the 2023 Vienna International Music Competition.

In 2024, Magyar made his debut in China with a solo and orchestral performance in Shanghai and Suzhou. He has also performed in recitals in Brazil, Serbia, Romania, England, and Hungary.

Magyar’s second CD features the work of Liszt and Schubert and will be released later this year.

The performance on Sept. 23 will include works by Franck/Bauer, Schubert, and Liszt.

Tickets for the concert are $25 to $30, with some discounts available, and can be purchased on the Jorgensen website at jorgensen.uconn.edu.

The Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts is located at 2132 Hill Rd. on the UConn campus in Storrs.

The Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
