Poet Pat Riviere-Seel will deliver the Victor R. Small Writers Series lecture at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, the Kennedy Family Theatre at Barton College.

The lecture, free and open to the public, will showcase the work of a prominent voice in North Carolina poetry, whose writing blends vivid imagery with personal reflection.

Riviere-Seel is the author of four poetry collections, including “The Serial Killer’s Daughter,” winner of the Roanoke-Chowan Award. Her most recent book, “Because I Did Not Drown,” combines poetry and personal essays, exploring themes of memory, survival and identity. Her work has appeared widely in literary journals and anthologies, and she has served as poet-in-residence at the North Carolina Zoo.

She taught for 15 years in the University of North Carolina at Asheville’s Great Smokies Writing Program and served two years as the N.C. Poetry Society’s Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for the western region of the state. Before earning her master’s degree in fine arts from Queens University of Charlotte, she worked in journalism, publicity, editing and lobbying. Riviere-Seel previously participated in Barton’s 2008 “Walking Into April” Poetry Day, a celebration of contemporary North Carolina poetry.

She currently serves on the board of directors for the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities and co-chairs its literary committee. More information is available at www.patriviereseel.com.

The Victor R. Small Writers Series is sponsored by the Barton College School of Arts and Humanities and the Department of English and Modern Languages.

The lecture is presented as part of the Barton Forum Lecture Series, which brings distinguished voices to campus to inform, challenge and inspire community dialogue.
