DENPASAR, Bali — New Year’s Eve celebrations in Bali will take place without fireworks displays or music concerts. Indonesian police have imposed a ban across Denpasar and parts of South Badung, following an official directive issued by the National Police Chief.
Head of Public Relations at Denpasar Police, Commissioner I Ketut Sukadi, said the instruction clearly prohibits and does not recommend fireworks activities or the staging of music concerts during the 2026 New Year period.
“The telegram from the National Police Chief means fireworks and music concerts are neither permitted nor recommended,” Sukadi said during a year-end press conference on Friday.
He explained that the ban will apply to designated areas, although several locations may still be allowed to use fireworks. Authorities are expected to finalise which zones fall under the restriction in the coming days.
Police have also confirmed that permits for fireworks displays, concerts, and other crowd-based events will not be issued, whether requested by government institutions, private entities, or tourism operators.
“We will not issue any permits or recommendations for fireworks celebrations, music concerts, or other public gatherings during the Christmas and New Year 2026 period,” Sukadi said.
To enforce the policy, Denpasar Police are coordinating with public order officers from both Denpasar and Badung. Joint patrols and enforcement actions will be carried out to address any violations on the ground.
