HAMPTON, Va. — A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted robbery at the Royal Farm on Mercury Boulevard, where a police officer shot another suspect, according to Hampton police. The suspect who was shot was hospitalized.
Crystal Seyam, 44, from Newport News, was arrested Monday, police say. She is charged with two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony and one count of possession of burglarious tools.
Around 4:14 a.m., an on-duty officer went into a Royal Farms in the 4000 Block of Mercury Boulevard. At the time, a robbery was in progress at the convenience store — the officer was not aware of this incident taking place upon arrival, Hampton police say.
Based on initial gatherings, a male and female suspect were carrying out the attempted robbery. Hampton police say the male suspect, who had a firearm, was then “confronted” and shot by the officer who just entered the Royal Farms. The female suspect fled the scene but was arrested soon after nearby.
This incident was posted on social media by Hampton police around 5:14 a.m.
Hampton Police are currently investigating an officer involved shooting in the 4000 block of West Mercury Boulevard. The media staging area will be the Take 5 parking lot located at 4100 West Mercury Boulevard.

Video captured by News 3 showed a police presence at a Royal Farms in the area.
Hampton police say the suspect was taken to the hospital with serious injuries — however, they are in stable condition. The officer was not injured during this incident.
