Prince Harry is vying for an invite to Sandringham this summer, to enable his two young children to spend precious time with their grandfather, King Charles. In a bombshell report from The Sunday Times, the Duke of Sussex would welcome an invitation for his family to join his father on the Norfolk Estate in July.
A friend of the 41-year-old told the publication: “If he was invited by the King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in. He’d like an invite to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend on who was there. If the King was to say, ‘Come up and spend some time with the family’, he’d love that.”
Harry has only seen his father twice in two years, while his two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, last saw the King in June 2022, when the Sussexes travelled to the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.
Meghan Markle was last in the UK in September 2022, for the late Queen’s funeral.
The King is understood to be keen to spend more time with his grandchildren, but he is all too aware that the Crown’s priorities come first and that a visit from Harry and Meghan may prove too controversial.
But what do you think? Should Harry bring his children to visit the King? Vote in our poll below.
Harry and Meghan’s distance from the Royal Family is largely a result of the couple’s bitter split from the Firm in 2020, which has seen the Sussexes level personal attacks on members of the family in interviews, documentaries and in Harry’s memoir.
The Duke has long said he is reluctant to bring his wife and two children to the UK unless he receives automatic police protection. A decision on the security provision to which he and his family are entitled is expected soon.
The King’s youngest son is expected to return to the UK this summer to mark the one-year countdown to Birmingham hosting the next Invictus Games. It is unclear whether his wife and children will join him.
