The cast of TLC’s reality show Polyfamily has announced they’re leaving television for good after just one season on the network. Taya Hartless, one of the four adults featured in the polyamorous reality series, broke the news to fans about their permanent departure from both Polyfamily and reality television entirely.
The announcement came during a candid TikTok exchange over the weekend when fans asked about a potential second season. Taya’s blunt response told viewers to “go f*** yourselves,” before officially confirming the family’s decision in her caption.
“This just in: we’re NEVER doing reality TV again,” Taya wrote in her social media post. Despite their exit from television, the family plans to continue sharing their story on their own terms.
“To everyone who found us through the chaos and chose to stay, thank you. Your support has made all the difference through this journey. And don’t worry, we’ll keep sharing our story … but this time, we’re taking the mic,” Taya explained to supporters.
The TLC series followed the unique family structure of four adults who formed what they call a “closed quad” polycule. The family consists of Taya and her husband Sean Hartless, along with Sean’s girlfriend Alysia Rodgers and her husband Tyler Rodgers, who also serves as Taya’s boyfriend, completing their quad relationship.
Both couples were married before joining together to form their polycule. Since creating their closed quad family structure, they have welcomed three children and have chosen not to learn the children’s paternity.
Fans flooded the comments with mixed reactions to the announcement, expressing sadness over the show’s end while also showing understanding for the family’s decision.
“I loved your show! I kept looking when season 2 was coming out! But also don’t blame yall one bit! I’m sure editing was BRUTAL!,” one person wrote, while another added, “TLC has always been trouble! nothing good ever comes from working them.”
When some viewers speculated that TLC had canceled the series, Taya was quick to set the record straight. “It wasn’t canceled, we don’t want to do it again,” she clarified, making it clear the departure was entirely the family’s choice.
