Popular food influencer Michael Duarte’s death was reported as the result of a “horrible incident,” and now we know more about what that incident was.
Per TMZ, a Medina County Sheriff’s Office rep said that Duarte was killed after they responded to a call for a disturbance back on Nov. 8 in Castroville, Texas. The rep said the caller said there was a man with a knife who was “acting erratically.”
Police said that when they arrived, they found him and that “after multiple verbal commands were given for Duarte to get on the ground by the deputy, Duarte charged toward the deputy while yelling, ‘I’m going to kill you.’”
A deputy fired two rounds. Aid was given to Duarte at the scene, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A GoFundMe page was set up to cover the funeral expenses of Duarte. It has currently raised more than $65,000 with a goal of $100,000.
US Weekly said he was killed only three days after celebrating his ninth wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica. The outlet said the two also had a daughter, Oakley, who is 6.
Jessica Duarte shared a post on Instagram following his death.
“It’s been 24 hours since my world came crashing down,” she wrote. “I’m numb, angry, depressed. Words can’t describe this kind of pain. I never thought I would be writing this. To the world you were foodwithbearhands but to us you were a loving husband and father. You didn’t deserve this. I will love you forever and I will be strong for our daughter and I know how much you loved us. If everyone can stop and please pray for our family. To my husband, I will miss you … until we meet again.”
Alooma Media Group, which represented Duarte, also issued a statement.
“Michael was so much more than a client to us at Alooma,” it read. “He was a true & loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person. His passion, professionalism and creativity left a lasting mark not only on our team but on everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
