If there is one thing that Mr Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor can do better than any other person on the planet it is to induce dry retching.
He might no longer be royal, no longer feted, no longer allowed to sup at table with the King or to come within one hundred feet of anyone still in possession of an HRH but he has a capacity for ick that takes the cake.
How gross are we talking? Well, historian and author Andrew Lownie, whose recent book Entitled fired the starter’s pistol on Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s de-princing, has offered fresh details about the former prince’s overseas trips in a new interview.
Speaking to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich, Lownie explained that Andrew would use “the excuse of his role as Trade Envoy paid for by the taxpayer, to go off on these trips, but he always puts in two weeks of ‘private time’. So, we pay for his holiday and then he goes off and does things”.
Andrew, flying-the-flag-for-Britain trade envoy he used to be, allegedly on at least two occasions spent days of his overseas trips watching porn and with sex workers, according to these new claims.
If there is one thing we have learnt about Andrew of late is just when you think you could not be more grossed out and disgusted by his alleged conduct, then bingo. Some new email or claim surfaces and today’s is all what he allegedly used to get up to while flashing his passport about the palace.
See, from 2001 to 2011, Andrew had the job of fannying about the world on first class flights on the UK taxpayers’ dime repping UK trade interests, trips that often took him to locales farflung and suitably far away from Mumsy’s gaze. It is only now that we are hearing about what he allegedly got up to.
Take one particular sortie to Hong Kong.
“One year, (Andrew) hired the top floor of the Landmark Hotel…and spent the weekend watching porn and had hookers come in,” Lownie said.
Andrew was also allegedly “entertained” while on trips to Mongolia, Kazakhstan, the Bahamas, Laos and Libya.
We can now add this to Entitled’s revelation about the former royal’s eyepopping “room service demands” during his 2006 trip to Bangkok for King Bhumibol’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
In a matter of only days in the Thai capital, the then duke reportedly had “more than 40 women” brought to his room, according to Lownie.
Also in town at the time was the son of a prince.
“Once each heard they were both in town, the two princes began sending their favourite girls to each other, as a friendly gesture,” Andrew MacGregor Marshall, Reuters’ Thailand correspondent, told Lownie,
(It’s worth noting that Andrew has not responded to any of these claims.)
“Travelling all over the world as the UK trade ambassador and for other royal duties has given him access to some beautiful women and he’s taken full advantage,” a friend of Andrew’s told Lownie.
There is not a suite big enough on the Crown Estate to keep all his alleged bedpost notches, with Andrew having slept with more than a thousand women, including porn stars, according to Entitled.
“He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke and he doesn’t take drugs and never has, but sex is his big thing in life,” the friend has said.
Even, allegedly, if hot and cold running women are not on hand.
In 1993 he was in California, spending a two day personal break at Sunnylands, the grand Palm Springs estate of the former US ambassador to the UK Walter Annenberg. (It’s known as the “Camp David of the west coast”.)
Andrew left Annenberg’s wife Lee “appalled” after he “holed up in his bedroom for two days apparently watching porn”, Tina Brown revealed in her cracking exposé The Palace Papers.
(Andrew’s other kink – booking out whole hotel floors, reportedly. In 2017, while in Bangkok to represent the UK at the cremation service of the late King Bhumibol Adulyade he booked out “pretty well an entire floor” in the five-star Mandarin Oriental, at a cost of about $100,000 to taxpayers.)
But a man cannot exist on smut alone and Lownie has alleged that Andrew managed to fit in other things while on his working trips abroad.
“He was handed a suitcase full of cash in Kazakhstan,” Lownie told NewsNation, although the precise reason for this was not specified.
It was after that 2007 trip, according to NewsNation, that Andrew sold his former home Sunninghill Park for $30 million, $6 million over the asking price, to Timur Kulibayev, the son-in-law of the president of Kazakhstan, despite it having been on the market for years and there reportedly being no other bid.
Then in 2008, per Lownie, Queen Elizabeth’s favourite boy used a complicated tax scheme which saved up to $14 million.
Gird yourself for more, oh so much more, to potentially come out about the man who will possibly go down in the history books as the last Duke of York.
(So tainted is the title, I don’t think the royal family could or would use it for generations.)
Since Entitled’s bombshell release and Andrew’s de-princing, Lownie has said that “people (are) coming out from the woodwork to talk about their time dealing with (then) Prince Andrew. They aren’t scared to speak anymore, and they want to get on the right side of history”.
He is now working on a sequel called Untitled.
In the meantime, Andrew has been summoned to testify before the US Congress and the deadline for him to formally respond to the request is this Thursday, November 20. There is no good scenario here for Buckingham Palace but for Andrew to dodge this would only make the King’s brother appear to have something to hide.
We’re a long way from the Mandarin Oriental and “room service”, Toto.
