Royal author calls out Prince Harry after his meeting with King Charles
A royal author has called Prince Harry “poison for the monarchy” after his meeting with King Charles, claiming his visit to Britain could only harm the institution.
Harry returned to the UK on Monday for a busy week of charitable engagements, including Invictus Games events. The Duke of Sussex stepped down as a working royal in 2020.
Events on his agenda included visiting a children’s hospital, launching the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, trying goat yoga, and meeting with his father, King Charles. Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet joined him over the weekend for private family time in the UK. The visit was the first time the family of four had returned together since 2022.
As with previous visits, Harry’s trip to the UK has split public opinion. But many noted a lighter, more playful side to him that seemed absent during the six years since he left Britain. He even jokingly introduced himself using his full royal title during a recent podcast appearance.
However, in an interview with The Daily Express, outspoken royal author Tom Bower commented: “The man is poison for the monarchy, and I think all the damage he and Meghan have done over the last 5 years, yes, there was again more damage, and the monarchy’s popularity has fallen.”
“It needs to rebuild its popularity and rebuild its respect for people. And Harry’s presence in Britain just undermines that effort,” he added.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spoken out against the monarchy repeatedly since stepping down six years ago. Still, King Charles appears ready to move past it. That was evident on Friday when he and Queen Camilla welcomed the family to Highgrove.
